Support that starts with listening

You are not a diagnosis to be processed.

Ember supports adults with communication and swallowing needs linked to neurological conditions — and the people navigating those changes alongside them.

Therapy is shaped around what matters in your real life. That might mean finding a more comfortable way to join a conversation, helping loved ones understand what you need, or making eating and drinking feel safer and less uncertain.

02

Speech & voice

Practical, individual support when changes to speech or voice make it harder to be understood or to feel like yourself in conversation.

Dysarthria · apraxia · neurological voice change

03

Eating & drinking

Careful assessment and clear guidance for swallowing difficulties, always balancing safety, comfort, choice and quality of life.

Who Ember supports

Making room for a new way forward.

Ember works with adults living with acquired and progressive neurological conditions. You do not need to know the clinical language before getting in touch.

Ask if Ember can help

Meet Nessa

Clinical expertise, worn lightly.

I’m Nessa, a specialist Speech and Language Therapist in community neurorehabilitation.

I created Ember because I wanted adult speech therapy to feel more considered, calm and human. When communication or swallowing changes, it affects much more than a set of symptoms. It can reshape confidence, relationships, routines and the way a person feels in the world.

My role is to listen closely, understand the whole picture and bring specialist knowledge into your everyday life. I will be honest, explain things clearly and — when something beyond the usual remit is getting in your way — help you work out the next step.

“I want you to feel heard, cared for, hopeful and empowered.”

The Ember ethos

Not fixing. Not fighting.
Finding what works now.

You are not broken. Therapy is about unlocking new ways of doing things, and accompanying you and the people around you as life changes.

01

Person before patient

Your priorities, identity and daily life come before a checklist.

02

Warm, never patronising

Adults are spoken with honestly, respectfully and directly.

03

Practical compassion

Care means noticing what is getting in the way and helping where possible.

04

Together, not to you

Therapy is collaborative. You remain part of every choice and goal.

Your first visit

A conversation first.
An assessment second.

There is no clinic waiting room and no expectation to perform. Your first appointment is a chance to slow things down, understand what has changed and decide together what would be most useful.

  1. 01

    Before we meet

We’ll have a brief conversation about what is happening, where you are based and whether a home or online appointment feels right.

  2. 02

    At the appointment

Nessa will listen to your story, talk through your priorities and complete only the assessment activities needed to understand the full picture.

  3. 03

    A clear way forward

You’ll leave with an explanation of what was found, practical first steps and an honest recommendation about what support could look like.

A few useful answers

Questions are welcome.

Beginning private therapy can feel like a big step. If your question is not covered here, please ask.

Do I need a referral?

You can make an enquiry yourself. A family member, carer or professional can also get in touch, with the person’s knowledge and consent. If another service would be a better fit, Ember will be honest about that.

Where do appointments take place?

Most appointments take place in your own home, where things can feel more familiar and relaxed. Online appointments may also be possible when they are clinically appropriate.

Can family members or carers be involved?

Yes. With your agreement, the people who know and support you can be involved. Ember can help family, friends and care staff understand practical ways to make communication, eating and drinking easier.

How many sessions will I need?

There is no one-size-fits-all course. After the first visit, you will receive an honest recommendation based on your goals, needs and circumstances. You remain part of every decision.

Is Ember for children?

No. Ember is an adult speech and language therapy service, with a particular focus on acquired and progressive neurological conditions.
